Easter Weekend 2008

This year has seen many new developments for our family--new jobs, wedding plans, and new babies! Here are pics of the Easter shenanigans at Twelve Acres on Easter weekend (late March 08) including the fun we had at the dual shower for bride Ellen and second-time mom Jessie on the Saturday afternoon.

First, though, for those who didn't get to see these over the weekend, here are a couple of shots of my new condo in Oshawa, my home away from home through the week.

Friday we laid low and waited for everyone to arrive. We had fun playing catch with Leah on Saturday morning, and then the McClinchey's arrived. Jess was a bit skeptical about letting others hold Evan at first (not really--but she sure looks worried!).

Next, we had the obligatory Easter egg hunt for the small fry, setting off what was to be a 24 hour sugar high.

Frank reminded us of the higher spiritual meaning of the holiday, however.

Soon, friends and family arrived for the dual shower. The menfolk were banished to the living room while the women congregated in the sunny sunroom to open all the generous gifts, with a little help from some interested onlookers...

Throughout all this, Laura was fashioning a sexy bow-festooned bra for the girls to model.

After all the gifts were opened and the cake eaten, the kids decided they needed more interaction, and persuaded the grownups to help them colour hard-boiled eggs.

Some clever adults escaped the egg colouring by hanging onto the baby, engaging in serious conversations, or merely throwing up their hands!

The day progressed through a big satisfying dinner to various late night antics, but finally the guests all went their separate ways and the rest of us all packed it in for the day. The next morning, Leah was up bright and early, and was persuaded to have her hair brushed by the promise of beribboned pigtails. Then, as we might have "egg-spected," she wanted to colour MORE eggs! It was a good opportunity to practice her counting as she timed the dip into each colour, however, "One, two, sree, sore, size!"

Next, it was time to help Nan fill the birdfeeders. Then, the whole family piled into cars and went to look at the thousands of tundra swans at the Aylmer wildlife centre. Having climbed the stairs to the observation station, Leah concluded that the popular names among the swans were Maggie, Gaggie, and Laggie (who knew?) but was more interested in going all the way downstairs again to have a snowball picnic with Mom.

As always, our time together was too short, but great fun! Let's hope that Easter is never this early again, however, so we can have more fun in the sun. Here's to our next family adventure in June!
